Kawai a Ledro

The title “La Boemia e il nuovo mondo” (Bohemia and the New World) summarises the meaning and the artistic content of the 15th edition of “Kawai a Ledro” and of the two concerts featuring national symphonic and choral ensembles that will take place in the Spring. It is also an occasion for remembering, after a hundred years, the dramatic return of the population of Valle di Ledro from the Bohemian villages and towns where they were forced “guests” during the Great War.

The Summer Music Campus has also come to its 7th edition.

Kawai a Ledro

“Kawai a Ledro” is a high profile summer concert season, born out of an idea and thanks to the passion and generous support of Roberto Furcht, managing director of Milan-based Furcht & C., and with the help of Angelo Foletto. Since 2017, the role of artistic director has been held by Davide Cabassi, who, as pianist, teacher, promoter and organiser, has been a protagonist of the festival from the very beginning.

The festival, mostly featuring the piano, has set itself the goal of providing a stage for solo artists from around the world, with special regard to young talents. This has led to the privileged relationship with the Bolzano-based Busoni Prize, whose winners have been regular guests at the festival. But also to the well consolidated and prestigious collaboration with the Haydn Orchestra of Bolzano and Trento.

Since 2018, the renewed vitality of “Kawai a Ledro” has manifested itself through the second edition of “Kawailiberi”, a parallel short concert season in non-traditional concert venues, distinctive of the cultural tradition and tourist hospitality of Valle di Ledro.

La Boemia e il nuovo mondo - Bohemia and the New World

The title “La Boemia e il nuovo mondo” (Bohemia and the New World) summarises the meaning and the artistic content of the 15th edition of “Kawai a Ledro” and of the two concerts featuring national symphonic and choral ensembles that will take place in the Spring. It is also an occasion for remembering, after a hundred years, the dramatic return of the population of Valle di Ledro from the Bohemian villages and towns where they were forced “guests” during the Great War.

People who were made unconscious “enemies” by the conflict, now relive those years serenely with memories and human and cultural exchanges, as an opportunity for peace, reconciliation and for mutual encounter.

The Bohemian “New World” which welcomed the citizens of the southern corner of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, can be musically linked to New York, which some years before had welcomed the Bohemian composer Antonin Dvořák, champion of the American musical school, whose main interpreters are celebrated in the 2019 programme of “Kawai a Ledro”.
