At springtime, nature wakes up and Lake Ledro and its meadows and alpine pastures become full of flowers. More than 1000 different kinds of wild flowers grow in Ledro, going from the Mediterranean flora on the shore of Lake Garda to the edelweiss on the highest peaks of Val Concei, where Monte Cadria stands with its 2254 m. In addition, in Dromaè, mountain pastures above Lake Ledro, every year in Mai blooms thousands of flowers, like wild narcissus and peony.
This variety of flora is one of the reasons Lake Ledro became UNESCO Biosphere attracting passionate and botanists from all over Europe every year.
Especially the pastures of Dromaè, a mountain area above the village of Mezzolago, turn in May and June into a white and fuchsia carpet thanks to the blooming of narcissus and wild peonies, which, in the area of Lake Ledro, grow only here: a chromatic game that leaves you speechless. Looking more in detail, you can also discover wild orchids, anemones and lilies. It is forbidden to forget the camera because, in addition to the flowers, from Dromaè you can also enjoy a beautiful view on Lake Ledro.
On 19 May, also the local association Pro Loco Mezzolago organizes on the pastures of Dromaè the flowering party: typical lunch in the mountain based on corn polenta, grilled meat and peverà, a dish made of old bread and sausages.
The pastures of Dromaè can be easily reached with a 2-hour walk starting from Mezzolago along the botanic path or the path SAT 453, that runs through pine and beech forests, up to the grassy pastures at 1522 meters of altitude of Malga Dromaè enclosed between Cima Parì and Cima Oro, with the presence of military trenches dating back to the Great War. For a less steep but longer ascent, one can take the forestry road, leading to the haylofts of Dromaè, or, for alpine paths lovers, there is the opportunity to reach Bocca Dromaè through the Peace Trail, that runs along the mountain ridge of the mountains starting from Bocca di Trat.
Here are some advice to reach Dromaè on foot, going up to cima d’Oro. For other walks, check the dedicated trekking section.
