The village

Near Tiarno di Sotto, along the main road, you reach the last village of the valley: Tiarno di Sopra. It is situated on the watershed between Ampola and Valle di Ledro and the torrent Sacche divides the village in two parts.

In the western part stands the church of St. Pietro and Paolo and nearby an important monument dedicated to the fallen of the WW I and II, made in 1970 by Don Silvio Bottes, friar and sculptor (Brusino,1921 - ).
The cemetery, situated once beside the church is now collocated not far from it, and its main entrance is charcterized by two statues of the Saints Pietro and Paolo.
The village, although it was damaged by violent fires, especially in the eighteenth century, and by WWI, it preserves several examples of rural architecture and some buildings of noble families. In front of the town hall, there is a merchant house of the Venetian Republic, "Casa Oliari", residence of a family of traders from Venice. In the XVI century they became a noble family and decided to paint the family coat of arms on the exterior wall of the building, today still visible.

A short distance from the village is the protected Lake Ampola biotope where you can see a variety of aquatic and marsh plants. Many excursions can also be made to areas where the environment remains unspoilt.
