| The roman age |
|
Between the 3rd and the 2nd century BC another population came to the valley, a population that probably belonged to the "Galls Cenomani", from their settlement in Brescia they probably reached our valley coming through the Chiese Valley and the Sarca Valley and bringing with them the first sign of the Roman civilization. The complete cultural roman conquest is said to go back to the first century BC. Actually during that period the Ledro Valley was registered to the Fabia Tribe and aggregated to the Municipium Brescia. From Riva del Garda an important roman road led up to Bocca di Trat (Tractus) and came down into the Concei Valley, then across the slopes of Mount Plagna (Mons Planus) it reached the roman bridge called "Ponte di Croina", where, after two hundred metres it forked and led up to the Rango Pass and to the Giumella Pass. Coins from the Imperial Age were found in roman sepulchres in Pieve di Ledro and in Bezzecca. A whole necropolis came to light in Tiarno di Sotto and there the archeologists found many objects from different periods: buckles from the Gallic period, medals and hatpins of the Roman Age, buckles and earrings of the Barbaric Age. |
